Shimadzu Europa

Shimadzu is a leading manufacturer of analytical instrumentation, dedicated to supporting consumer and product safety across a wide range of industrial segments, including healthcare, food safety and life sciences. Since our founding in 1875, we have been at the service of science, providing precise and reliable analyses in medicine, chemistry, pharmacy, food and environmental control.

“As we celebrate 150 years of operation, we look forward to continuing our search for answers. We must pool our strength with even more scientists and researchers than before and accelerate innovation that transcends national borders.”  Yasunori Yamamoto, President and CEO of Shimadzu Corporation.

The company’s principal product areas include separation techniques like liquid chromatography and gas chromatography, but also mass spectrometry, spectrophotometry, materials testing, elemental analysis, imaging systems and laboratory software. These technologies enable organisations to identify, quantify and characterise chemical and biological substances with high sensitivity, accuracy and reproducibility. Shimadzu also provides integrated workflows that combine instrumentation, software, automation and technical support to improve laboratory productivity and data quality.

The pharmaceutical industry is one of the key drivers for continuous development and improvements and makes a significant contribution to the ‘Kai-Zen’ process. Means, Implementation of newest technologies, highest sensitivity for detectors is the result of a close dialogue with users in the industry and have pushed the development especially for LC systems and for mass spectrometers until today.

Biopharmaceutical research and manufacturing is an important application area for Shimadzu’s analytical technologies. Biopharmaceutical products, including monoclonal antibodies, recombinant proteins, vaccines, peptides, oligonucleotides and other advanced therapies, are structurally complex and require extensive characterisation throughout development and production. Shimadzu’s chromatography and mass spectrometry platforms are used to support the analysis of critical quality attributes such as molecular identity, purity, potency, aggregation, charge variants, glycosylation and degradation products.

Liquid chromatography systems are widely applied in biopharmaceutical quality control and method development. They can support reversed-phase, size-exclusion, ion-exchange and other separation techniques used to evaluate proteins, peptides, nucleic acids and related impurities. With a view onto challenges in separation of biomolecules, bioinert / biocompatible UHPLC systems as well as micro-LC suited instrument are part of the product range. Mass spectrometry adds detailed molecular information, helping scientists confirm intact masses, identify post-translational modifications, characterise impurities and investigate product-related changes.

Shimadzu’s technologies can also contribute to bioanalysis and pharmacokinetic studies by measuring drug substances, metabolites, biomarkers and therapeutic agents in complex biological matrices such as plasma or serum. Highly sensitive liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry workflows are particularly valuable in preclinical and clinical research, where accurate quantification may be required at very low concentrations.

Following the upcoming trend in Proteomics, Shimadzu already in early 1990’s developed and start selling MALDI-TOF instruments for analyzing large molecules.

Nowadays our application groups are evaluating the possibilities by using Supercritical fluid chromatography for the separation of proteins, peptides and oligonucleotides with the focus to increase separation performance and gain sensitivity.

In biopharmaceutical manufacturing, analytical instruments are used across development, process optimisation, in-process testing, release testing and stability studies. Shimadzu’s laboratory software and data-management solutions help laboratories manage instrument control, method execution, results processing and electronic records. These capabilities can support more consistent operations and assist organisations in meeting data-integrity and regulatory expectations.

At Shimadzu, we focus on improving everyday life through scientific innovation. Our technologies play a crucial role in enhancing food safety and quality, advancing environmental analysis and supporting pharmaceutical research. We are also committed to sustainability, continuously developing eco-friendly products and minimising our environmental impact.

Customer satisfaction is our priority. Our skilled professionals provide exceptional service and support, adapting to the evolving needs of our clients.

As we look to the future, we are steadfast in our vision: “Contributing to Society through Science and Technology.”
