CKD market to reach $10.9 billion across 7MM by 2035, forecasts GlobalData

The chronic kidney disease (CKD) market across the seven major markets (7MM*) is forecast to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.8% from $4.3 billion in 2025 to $10.9 billion in 2035, according to GlobalData, a leading intelligence and productivity platform.

GlobalData’s latest report “Chronic Kidney Disease: Disease Analysis and Forecast” reveals that the US dominated the CKD market in 2025, with an estimated $2.3 billion in drug sales. The US is expected to remain as the leading market throughout the forecast period, generating sales of $5.9 billion in 2035 and accounting for 54% of the overall market across the 7MM. This dominating position within the 7MM is a result of the significantly higher costs of marketed products in the US and a high diagnosed prevalence.

Kajal Jaddoo, Managing Pharma Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “The pipeline reflects a growing interest in novel mechanisms, including aldosterone synthase inhibitors, autologous cell therapy, glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists, and combination strategies, but translating these into approved, accessible options remains an ongoing challenge for addressing the full spectrum of unmet need in this population.”

According to GlobalData forecasts, the overall diagnosed prevalence of CKD cases is expected to increase at an annual growth rate (AGR) of 0.83% in the 7MM.

Jaddoo concludes: “Potential barriers to growth of the global CKD market include the loss of exclusivity of several key branded products. For instance, branded Forxiga (dapagliflozin), Jardiance (empagliflozin), and Kerendia (finerenone) will all show declining sales during the forecast period as generic versions launch, decreasing revenue from the drug classes that are currently anchoring the market.”
